The Michigan Anticoagulation Quality Improvement Initiative (MAQI2) is a multi-center collaborative of anticoagulation clinics across the state of Michigan.

MAQI2 seeks to improve the safety, quality of care and outcomes of patients requiring anticoagulation.

>500,000 medical chart reviews on over 18,000 patients
>65,000 Michigan patients impacted
60% reduction in serious bleeding
55% reduction in bleed related ED visits
25% reduction in ischemic stroke

Data on patients receiving anticoagulant therapy management from participating outpatient clinics are entered into a clinical registry at the MAQI2 Coordinating Center, which is located within the Michigan Cardiovascular Outcomes Research and Reporting Program (MCORRP) at the University of Michigan.

Several quality metrics are used to compare performance between sites. Participating sites meet on a quarterly basis to review quality metrics, share Best Practices, and learn about the most recent anticoagulation management guidelines and research. Quality improvement initiatives are conducted to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs.
